Fish
Octopuses are cleaver and charismatic animals that have captivated us for years. Unfortunately, the demand for their consumption has skyrocketed recently and depleted wild populations. This has not only increased prices but also led to an increased interest in octopus farming.
This infographic summarises the key characteristics of the octopus and the issues associated with farming them, as well as the economic pressure to farm them which led to the launch of our latest report: Octopus Factory Farming: a Recipe for Disaster.

The Welfare of Farmed Fish During Slaughter in the EU
There is a growing body of scientific evidence demonstrating that fish are sentient animals – capable of feeling pain, fear and psychological stress, as well as exhibiting positive emotions, social bonds and advanced intelligence.
It is therefore important that all finfish killed for food should be slaughtered humanely. This means that they must be effectively stunned, rendered instantaneously insensible, and remain unconsciousness until death supervenes.
